Mitzvah Day 2024

Pancake Breakfast hosted by Brotherhood | Kulanu Class Mitzvah Projects | Coffee Talk with Rabbi Alfi | Adult Mitzvah Projects

Month of Mitzvot – 2021

In January of 2021, we had our first ever Month of Mitzvot. Every week we came together as a community to Learn, Do, Reflect, and Act. We had four educational Learning Sessions featuring a different CBI committee on Sunday mornings and four introspective and meaningful Havdalah gatherings. Committee members put together the Learning Sessions and provided us with meaningful ways to learn more about the topic at hand by sharing videos, links to articles and links to organizations doing remarkable work throughout Sacramento and nationally. Our religious school community learned with Rabbi Alfi and Cantor Steinberg each Sunday during tefillah, and the weekly themes were reinforced during their Judaica class time.

Knowing not everyone could join, we have posted the recordings of the Learning Sessions – see links below. We want to encourage CBI members to listen to the recordings and, most importantly, look at the resources for each week. On each week’s page we have shared articles and links that will give CBI members the ability to take the next steps in repairing the world.

Please note that the pages linked below are for members of CBI, so you will need to log in to your ShulCloud account to access the Zoom links and resources.

WEEK ONE ► Caring for Your CBI Family and Friends
All members of CBI are part of this committee by default as we are all responsible for each other. Find out ways you can provide comfort to those who are grieving or celebrate a wonderful joyous event. Also, learn more about self-care and ensure you are taking care of yourself during stressful times.

WEEK TWO ► Focus on People Who Are Unhoused and/or Food Insecure

Learn more about Family Promise and the issues facing people who are unhoused or experiencing food insecurity. We have also provided a list of local agencies who responded to an email asking how members of CBI could help.

· Family Promise – Sacramento

· LGBT Community Center Housing Services

· Next Move Homeless Services

· River City Food Bank (RCFB)

· Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services

· Show Up Sacramento (Mobile Showers)

· WIND Youth Services

· Women’s Empowerment

WEEK THREE ► Social Justice – Focus on Immigrants and Refugees

Learn more about issues facing people who are being detained by ICE and how you can help.

WEEK FOUR ► Caring for the Planet and What Lives Here (our animal friends)

The Sustainable Living Committee shared details on all the work being done at CBI as well as incredible resources outlining how each of us can reduce our carbon footprint.

We welcome feedback on the Month of Mitzvot as it will help us plan for the future. Please email feedback to: mitzvahday@bnais.com.
